Viva La Muerte!

The enchanting connection between guests and the vibes of our Day of the Dead tour.

Our Day of the Dead tour “Viva la Muerte” holds profound significance for us, shaping our humanity, maturity, and experience over the past decade. It’s been an honor that this tour always concludes with positive vibes, energy, lessons, deep reflection, and connection among all guests.

This tour authentically shares the Mexican tradition near Mexico City, visiting three villages, with the first two immersing us deeply in the celebration. Witnessing families clean and decorate graves, lighting fires to warm food, sharing laughter, music, and stories, children running in costumes singing songs for treats – families, despite having little materially, find abundance in health and the joy of sharing with their families once again this significant moment.

Our guests engage with locals, sharing stories, receiving tamales or a shot of tequila, opening their ears to listen and hearts to share their own tales. After the second cemetery, as night falls, before heading to Mixquic we gather in the van for a reflective conversation. I open the conversation by expressing a little bit about this ancestral tradition's value, emotional nuances, my intergenerational trauma, and the stoic presence of living in the moment. I touch on personal themes, reflecting on the loss of my father and the importance of cherishing time with family.

Participants then share their insights, and emotions flowing in a touching way. Conversations range from future aspirations to embracing death in memory of loved ones by preparing an altar next year or even opening up about what they would love their loved ones to place in their altars for themselves, preparing for the inevitable. Tears, laughter, and sips of mezcal accompany this Everest-like peak of the tour. We conclude the night in the bustling town of Mixquic, savoring tacos amidst organized chaos.

I’m thrilled to experience this again with my future guests joining the 2024 Day of the Dead “Viva la Muerte” tour. Each tour is a new chapter of memories and learning, and I eagerly look forward to offering my best as the designer, planner, and guide for this extraordinary journey.
