Bohemian South

ALL-INCLUDED* PRIVATE TOUR - NEIGHBORHOODS, MODERN ART AND ARCHITECTURE

Mexico City is an epicenter of art and architecture. In the south, San Ángel was born over 200 years ago as a peaceful retreat with colonial houses and surrounded by volcanic landscapes. Today, alongside this beautiful neighborhood, its Saturday Art Market remains a cherished tradition.

Architects like Juan O'Gorman, alongside Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo’s house and studio, played a pivotal role in the evolution of Latin American architecture with innovative designs, marking the arrival of functionalism in Mexico. Meanwhile, the monumental murals at UNAM, created by artists like O'Gorman and Siqueiros, helped solidify the area as a central hub for public art, now proudly recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Through Gabriel Talavera, founder of PDPMX and an architect passionate about Mexico’s history and architecture, you'll discover the cultural and architectural legacy of this fascinating area.

Our Artistic Legacy

This was an era of enchantment, where art and inspiration flourished. Exceptional muralists like Diego Rivera, Siqueiros, and Orozco transformed the landscape with vibrant brushstrokes, infusing protest and nationalism into every canvas and wall. The National Autonomous University of Mexico unveiled its new campus, contributing to the growing influence of art in the city.

In the heart of San Ángel, the tradition of the Saturday Art Bazaar was born over a century ago, bringing together local artisans and artists in the vibrant Plaza de San Jacinto. This iconic market continues today, offering a glimpse into Mexico’s rich cultural and artistic legacy.

We did the glimpse of Mexico city tour and it was excellent. Our guide was really nice, easy to communicate with, and offered excellent insight into different aspects of Mexico city including the markets, and historical & cultural perspectives. Highly recommend.

I have been on many walking tours in many cities and the "Glimpse of Mexico City" led by Gabriel is one of the best.
I have rarely met someone with so much passion for a city.
Her in depth knowledge of architecture, food and history made the full day tour pass by quickly.
It was like spending a fun day with a good friend who loves the city.

The first tour gave me a great overview of the history, architecture and life of the city including several strategically timed food stops. And I was able to gain an insight into the complex issues that Mexico City and Mexico as a whole currently faces, from a local's perspective. I would never have achieved this on my own or with a large tour group. I also felt quite safe riding the Metro, taxis and venturing into local markets in out of the way areas with a local Spanish speaker.
